  • Principal Consultant

    Emeka Richard Ochu is a clean energy subject matter expert with comprehensive experience in carbon management, clean energy policy research, greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, and decarbonization. In a previous role as a carbon management Research Scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) at Columbia University, New York, he focused on financial and policy analyses for clean energy applications, including carbon capture, direct air capture, and zero carbon fuels. With expertise in helping resource-rich developing and emerging markets navigate their energy transition and reduce climate change effects on these economies, Emeka guides organizations on decarbonization options to achieve their sustainability goals.

    Emeka utilizes his comprehensive expertise in various fields within the clean energy sector to develop financing and regulatory policies that promote investment in clean energy technologies globally. He advises countries and companies on formulating and implementing cost-effective strategies to reduce emissions and carbon footprints while providing detailed assessments to corporate entities on the most effective pathways for achieving greenhouse gas reduction targets through carbon removal. Emeka's prior roles in energy economics, consulting, and banking have contributed to policy developments in the United States energy sector, as well as analyzing renewable energy investment opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

    Emeka has authored numerous publications in top-level energy journals and presented his work globally at various convenings. He uses his experience and expertise to provide strategic advice to several Fortune 50 and 500 companies and governments on clean energy policy and finance. Some organizations he has worked with include Bridge Partners Consulting, Microsoft, Bondi Partners, and Carbon Direct.

    His experiences are in Carbon Management, Clean Energy Policy Research, Carbon removal credit procurement, and GHG reduction strategy.

    NK is a finance professional with over a decade of experience in investing and financing ESG initiatives in the energy and power sector to create sustainable outcomes for clients, including about 9 years spent in deals advisory at PWC. Experienced in providing investment advisory and due diligence, financial modeling, project management, and debt financing for critical infrastructure, NK has supported Fortune 50 and 500 global brands with financial advisory services. She is passionate about building cross-sector partnerships to enable clients to make sound investment decisions with sustainable outcomes. NK’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in her expertise in using leading sustainability programs and frameworks, including CDP, GRI, DJSI, SASB, and the GHG Protocol, developing data-driven strategies to achieve energy, and GHG emissions reductions.

    NK is an alumnus of Columbia University in the City of New York and the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business.

    Dr. Friedmann recently served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Fossil Energy at the Department of Energy. He was responsible for DOE’s R&D program in advanced fossil energy systems, carbon capture, and storage (CCS), CO2 utilization, and clean coal deployment. More recently, he was a Senior Research Scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia. He has held positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, including Chief Energy Technologist.

    Dr. Friedmann is one of the most widely known and authoritative experts in the U.S. on carbon removal (CO2 drawdown from the air and oceans), CO2 conversion and use (carbon-to-value), hydrogen, industrial decarbonization, and carbon capture and sequestration. Dr. Friedmann holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Southern California, a Masters in Geology, and a Bachelor of Science in Music from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

  • Latonia Viverette-Batiste is an Environmental Scientist by education and training and has worked in the industry for over 25 years. She works at WSP as a Project Director in the Sustainability, Energy and Climate Change division. She has worked as a Lead Environmental Scientist and Energy Project Manager conducting sustainability and ESG research and reporting and leading environmental reviews efforts for renewable energy and communications projects for higher education, construction and energy industries. This social-entrepreneur has held roles in environmental/sustainability program management for Fortune 500 companies and the Federal Government.

    Dr. Viverette-Batiste began her Environmental Justice career developing methods to measure lead in the soil at playgrounds of underserved populations in the inner City of New Orleans.

    Viverette-Batiste has a PhD from Jackson State University (Dissertation topic: Environmental Sustainability), a MSPH from Tulane University (Environmental Science), BS in Biology from Xavier University of LA. She serves two roles with Gulf Research Program of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine: Board Member, Gulf Offshore Energy Safety (GOES) and Committee Chairperson for the Gulf Scholars Research Program for the Board on Gulf Education and Engagement.

    She is the 2016, Founding Director of Sustainability and Energy Efficiency at Xavier University of LA as well as the 2020 Founding Director of a start-up collaborative created to develop tools for climate literacy and mentoring for BIPOC communities. The collaborative is primarily composed of female Sustainability Scientists, graduates of HBCUs, with a passion to empower and GREEN the BIPOC community. She has numerous professional affiliations and serves as a local and national Board member volunteer for several organizations. When she is not fighting for Climate Justice, Dr. Viverette Batiste can found leading teen etiquette and youth climate justice workshops.
